Subsidies like the home buyers tax credit mainly went into the pockets of sellers (including builders). Housing accounts for an inordinate share of the economy and doesn't create real wealth. The imbalance created by the dependence of the U.S, economy on building, buying, selling and financing residential real estate has not been corrected. That anyone doesn't recognize this is surprising.
